The inaugural KL International Cultural Tourism Festival 2009 held at Central Market, Kuala Lumpur from June 5 – 7, 2009 was a colourful experience for many visitors as they enjoyed the unique cultural show with dance performances from the various countries.
Many visitors, locals as well as foreign tourists and backpackers took the chance to soak in the unique cultural event with participating countries from around the world, including Brazil, India, Indonesia, Japan and Singapore.
The festival is aimed at promoting Malaysia's cultural tourism potential globally as well as showcasing the cultural heritage of participating countries to the locals.
Other activities in the 3-day event include exhibitions, traditional games and product demonstrations.
From India:
Rhythm's International Troupe performing the Bhangra dance - the traditional folk dance from the northern state of Punjab, India.
From Singapore:Performing arts company Sri Warisan Som Said Performing Arts Ltd showcased the Singapore Multi-Ethnic Dance Ensemble.
From Indonesia:The Tameng Sari Dance Community showcased the Riau dance heritage.
A dance number called Persembahan Makan Sirih.
The joget dance with two male audience participation during the song repertoire Joget Pengusik Hati.
From Japan:
Japanese taiko drums that are used in both Japanese folk and classical musical traditions.
The exciting beats and rhythms of the two Japanese Taiko drummers energised and grabbed the attention of the audiences.
From Thailand:Rajabhat University of Sisaket in North East Thailand showcased traditional Thai dance and music.
From Brazil:Capoeira which is a unique Brazilian folklore dance that combines elements of martial arts, dance, acrobatics and live music.
The uniquely Brazilian folk dance with improvised fighting movements.
A capoeira dance performed with sticks.
From Malaysia:The indigenous tribal group dancers from the Land Below The Wind, Sabah, Malaysia.
The biggest ethnic tribe in Sabah, the Kadazandusun, present the cultural dance Penampang Sumazau.
Dancers performing with typical grace and beauty.
The soft and slow movement and rhythm of the dance.
A bamboo dance called Magunatip where dancers perform jumping and putting their feet between the clapping bamboos without being trapped. The dance needs good timing, or you would get your foot hurt.
The exotic and enchanting songs and dances of the indigenous tribal groups Orang Asli from Peninsular Malaysia.
Malaysia Is Truly Asia:
All the dancers from participating countries came on the stage floor during the grand finale singing and dancing together to the song Malaysia Truly Asia in a kaleidoscope of colours and sounds.
The catchy and beautiful song Malaysia Truly Asia is used by Malaysia Tourism for their campaigns. It was such a great song, so melodious and wonderful and one never get tired of hearing it again and again.
