The 14th day of Ghost Month

My opposite neignbour began the celebration of the 7th month of the lunar calendar outside the gate.

Offering food and burning candles, joss sticks and paper money to appease the wandering spirits.

Today is the 14th day of the Ghost Month which happens to be August 14 this year.

The Chinese believe that on this day, the gates of hell are opened and all hell break loose - ghosts are allowed to roam the living world freely.

Many Chinese homes today evening offer prayers in front of their gates by preparing ritualistic food offerings and burning candles, joss sticks and paper money to appease the visiting spirits of the ancestors and ward off bad luck.

15 days after the feast, the festival will be over, as the Chinese believe that the ghosts return back to where they come from.

So do you believe ghosts exist?
