Lee Chong Wei feeling gold medal badminton pressure

Congratulation! Lee Chong Wei, the best shot of Malaysia won the singles badminton Silver Medal in Beijing Olympic 2008.

Malaysia’s world number two Lee Chong Wei captured the silver medal in the Beijing Olympic badminton finals yesterday August 17, 2008 after he was defeated by China’s world number one Lin Dan with Game result of 12-21, 8-21.

Frankly I was very disappointed that Lee Chong Wei lost. The anticipated heart-pounding final turned out to be a frustrating one.

Lee had not played his usual game. Everything seems to go wrong. He was totally off-form. He made too many unforced errors and had lost his sharp edge on court enabling the World No. 1 to stretch his winning margin. This must be Lee’s worst nightmare!

I guess it must be the tremendous pressure placed on his shoulder - the hopes of a whole nation resting on his shoulders to win the first Olympics gold for the country.

Anyway I am still proud of him because he made it this far to reach the final where no other Malaysian shuttlers in the singles event were able to achieve such feat in the past. In the previous last two Olympics of 2004 & 2000, we returned empty handed.

The national shuttler will receive RM300,000 from the government for securing the silver medal and a reward of RM3,000 monthly pension under the Olympic incentive scheme as announced by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who is chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Sports Development.

Gold Medal - RM1,000,000
Silver Medal - RM300,000
Bronze Medal - RM100,000

This is for sure the biggest reward ever for an achievement in the olympic.

So never mind, Chong Wei, you can use part of the RM300K to get married with your girl friend Wong Mew Choo - Malaysia's top women's singles player.
