Fund-raising charity bazaar at Bangsar Village, Kuala Lumpur

The Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur organized a 2-day Charity Bazaar at Bangsar Village shopping centre in Kuala Lumpur on 7th – 8th March, 2009 from 10.00 am - 9.00 pm to raise funds for its community service projects for fiscal year 2008-2009.

Lions members and volunteers manned the 14 charity stalls selling various food items and goods which were donated by well-wishers, friends, relatives and members of the Lions Club Kuala Lumpur Bukit Kiara and included everything from rice to noodles, cakes to beverages, hotdogs to plants and more.

Two other vendors also participated in the charity event selling costume jewelleries and scarves with twenty-five per cent of their sales going back to the charity as donation.

The proceeds of the sales go towards funding the major charitable projects such as :-

Lions Feed The Needy
Blood Donation Campaign
Mobile Sight First
Lions Eye Clinic
Kidney Patients’ Refreshment project (KL Lions Renal Center)
Other community service projects on environment, health, youth outreach, medical aids and welfare homes.

It was also very kind of Bangsar Village shopping centre to dedicate the concourse area to the charity stalls.

Visitors to the bazaar needed to buy coupon booklets to pay for the food items and goods at the charity stalls.

The response has been immense. The fun-raising charity bazaar was well received by the generous public, which was evident as the Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur Bukit Kiara managed to raise a total of RM50,000 as targeted by the end of the charity sales.

Organizing chairperson of the fund-raising charity bazaar Lion Uma Pushpanathan conveyed her appreciation and gratitude to all the members, volunteers and friends for the two days and hours of hard work put in before the bazaar.

Immediate Past President (IPP) Lion Jennifer Khoo said, “It was a great success, and we had wonderful donations this year. Truly the success of this year's charity bazaar could not have been achieved without everyone’s commitment and kind generosity.”

The dedicated members of Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur Bukit Kiara spend their time and work hard all year to raise funds and get donations for its community service projects. Their continuous, unselfish and tireless devotion to make the world a better place for under-privileged and needy people deserved commendation .
