Fish Leong at Sungei Wang Plaza for her upcoming concert

Fish Leong hmmm…… wonder why did she call herself ‘Fish’? According to a report in a local daily, she said that’s because she likes fish a lot and loves eating fish – steamed and fried!

OK curiousity satisfied. Fish Leong Jing Ru is the stage name for Kuala Pilah-born singer Jasmine Leong Chui Peng, 30 who was in Sungei Wang Plaza, Kuala Lumpur on Saturday 25th April 2009 to advertise her upcoming Fish Leong Today is Our Valentine’s Day Live in Malaysia 2009 concert to be staged on June 13 at 8pm at Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil. This is her second concert in Malaysia after four years. Her first concert was in 2005 at the same stadium.

I am no fan of Fish Leong but when I was at Sungei Wang and heard that the singer was making a brief appearance, I decided to stay and see Fish Leong in person - a Malaysian singer who has made it big in Taiwan since she went there in 1999 and enjoys big success in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan, besides Malaysia.

Fish Leong met her fans, held an autograph signing session and sang a few of her favourite songs to the delight of her fans, admirers and shoppers at a make-shift stage outside the main entrance of Sungei Wang Plaza.

The place was unsuitable for the event as the crowd of hundreds cramped the enclosed make-shift stage area located on a pavement sandwiched between the plaza building on one side and Jalan Sultan Ismail on the other side and with the pedestiran pathway blocked, access into the shopping complex by shoppers from Jalan Bukit Bintang side is almost impossible. I wonder how the authority could have approved the venue.
