A colourful street procession watched by thousands of people was the highlights of Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya's (MBPJ) Mesra Gong Xi Fa Cai Chinese New Year celebration held on Saturday, February 14, 2009.
The VIP guests which included Selangor Executive Councillor (Exco) for Local Government, Research and Studies Ronnie Liu Tian Khiew and Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) city mayor Datuk Mohamad Roslan Sakiman joined in the 1.5 km procession along Jalan Yong Shook Lin and Jalan Sultan lead by a pair of decorated cows, dragon and lion dance performances, vintage cars, school band, stilt walkers, God of Prosperity and diablo spinning.

Thousands of people attended the Mesra Gong Xi Fa Cai Chinese New Year event held at the open air car park at the Civic Hall in Jalan Yong Shook Lin. The event is organized by Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) jointly with various residents associations (RA), rukun tetangga (RT) and non-government organizations (NGO) in the city. Damansara Utama state assemblyman Dr Cheah Wing Yin is seen seating in the front row, 2nd from right in red shirt.
The less fortunate from welfare homes are not forgotten in celebrating the festive occassion.

Various activities were held at the open air car park at the Civic Hall such as the drawing and colouring contest for children aged between 12 to 6 years and below.

Free acupuncture services are provided. A doctor from the Federation of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Malaysia inserts an acupuncture needle on this man.
