Break-in of Sea Park Residents Association cabin

A police report had been lodged by the president of Section 21 SEA Park Residents Association (RA) at SEA Park police station in SS2, Petaling Jaya on the break-in of the association’s locked cabin located at a field in Jalan 21/27 on 22 April 2009.

Association president Gan Keng said all its assets inside the cabin had been removed and loaded onto  a Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) truck by two men in ordinary plain clothes.

He said the RA committee members rushed over to the cabin after being informed by residents who saw the incident. When queried by the committee members as to who gave them the authority to remove the things in the cabin, the two men could not provide a satisfactory answer.

A frantic call to city mayor Datuk Bandar by the association president saved the day and the Datuk Bandar immediately ordered all the seized property be returned to the association without any delay.

According to Gan Keng, the ugly incident caught the association by surprise as it had received permission and agreement from MBPJ with support from Kampung Tunku state assemblyman Lau Weng San to place the cabin temporary in the field at Jalan 21/27 until a final decision is made by MBPJ.

The association had earlier received a summon to remove the cabin from the field issued by the enforcement department of MBPJ. It was believed that some residents who were former squatters staying in the Sri Aman low cost flats next to the field were not happy to see the cabin there which they considered as intrusion into the playing field.

The chairman of the Rukun Tetangga (RT) Sri Aman low cost flats Abdul Khahar Bin Ahmad was not available for comment.

It was believed that someone had gone against the MBPJ’s agreement by taking arbitrary, high-handed and insensitive action. The association said that such an unfortunate incident could not be tolerated but will not sour its existing good relationship with MBPJ. It will continue to work together with MBPJ to improve the residents quality of life.

The association had also brought their complaint to Selangor state executive council member Ronnie Liu at the first Petaling Jaya Residents Dialogue with State Government held at Dewan D’Klana in Kelana Jaya on Sunday 26th April 2009.

The cabin was securely padlocked and no one had the key except the SEA Park RA committee members. It is believed an oxy-acetylene torch was used to cut open the padlock as evident by the burnt mark on the metal door.
