Residents up against access roads to Paramount View condo that will worsen traffic jam

More than a hundred affected residents of SS1 and Section 21 SEA Park packed the conference hall of Poh Toh Association building in Jalan 21/22 SEA Park, Petaling Jaya last Sunday evening, March 22, 2009 to raise objections with their wakil rakyat (elected representative) Kampung Tunku state assemblyman YB Lau Weng San on an access road to a nearly completed Paramount View condominium currently being built and will link to Jalan SS1/26.

The urgent meeting was called by the affected residents staying in Jalan SS1/26, SS1/28, SS1/30, SS1/32, SS1/34, Jalan 21/27 and 21/35. They feared the access road will worsen the already daily traffic jam along the busy Jalan SS1/26 and surrounding areas. Also in the plan is another access road to be built that will cut across a field and link up with Jalan 21/27.

The affected residents wanted the local authorities to act fast to stop the road project immediately and find other alternative roads away from these congested areas.

Also present at the meeting were Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) councillors Ramakrishnan a/l Suppiah (in charge of Section 20, 21 & 22) and Tiew Way Keng (in charge of SS 1, SS 3 & SS 9) and president of Section 21 SEA Park Residents Association (RA) Gan Keng and committees.

YB Lau who chaired the meeting which lasted for about two hours said the higher authorities including the Mentri Besar office had been informed of the issue and he will work with all the affected parties to find a solution to it.
At the meeting, it was also pointed out that the condominium was approved under the previous government and several points as to whether any building guidelines had been violated were raised such as :-

1. The condo is located only 60 feet from an electricity pylon whereas the safety requirement is at least 100 feet away.

2. The condo price is averaged about RM255K per unit which is classified high medium cost. The formula used should be allocation of two parking lots for every unit in the building. Was this complied with?

3. A minimum two acres of land is required for building a high rise building but the condo project is occupying 1.88 acres of land area only.

4. Was there any Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) and Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) studies carried out before the condo project is approved as it is located in a not conducive atmosphere.
