The Pakatan Rakyat (PR) government organized a 2-day Petaling district-level carnival from March 14 – 15, 2009 to celebrate its one year in office for Petaling Jaya residents who came in droves to show their support and appreciation to the new Selangor state government which came into power after it won the General Election of March 8, 2008.
Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Dato’ Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and his team of state executive councillors and wakil rakyat (elected representatives) arrived in a ‘Whistle Stop’ convoy comprising a bus and a few four-wheel drive vehicles and cars to officially launch the carnival on Sunday March 15, 2009 at Dataran PJ (field opposite Amcorp mall) in Jalan Timur, Petaling Jaya.
The people participated in the various games and competitions such as street soccer, tug-of-war, decorated mini cars contest, kabbadi, poco-poco, line dance, teh-tarik competition, children colouring contest and many others.
The people were entertained to cultural performances, songs by artistes from Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ), helicopter and plane flying demonstration via remote control and free acupunture.
There were information and exhibition booths setup by the various government agencies of the state such as Pejabat Daerah Petaling (Petaling District Office), Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS), Tabung Warisan Anak Selangor (TAWAS), Universiti Industri Selangor (UNISEL) and Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ).
